September 20th, 2012 will mark the inaugural launch of the Truckload Carriers Association’s “Ditch the Pack Day” for the trucking industry. According to the Center for Disease Control, each year, an estimated 443,000 people die from smoking and/or exposure to secondhand smoke. Additionally, 8.6 million others live each day with a serious illness due to smoking.
Ditch the Pack Day’s initiative is to persuade those who smoke to quit for just one day, September 20th. Quitting for one day can lead to two days without smoking, which may lead to three, which may lead to a healthier, longer life. Please help in spreading the word to your colleagues, family members and friends who smoke and encourage them to quit for just one day. Who knows, you might just be the encouragement they need to quit!
