A 70-year-old trucker spoke out after being fired for what he believes is discrimination. Alfred Turner, who has held a commercial license for four decades, claims he was released due to his inability to perform certain exercises. According to Turner, his boss let him go because he leaned up against a truck to support his weight during the company’s morning workout routine.
“Nothing like this has ever happened to me. I thought it was crazy. I wasn’t hired to do exercises, I was hired to drive a truck,” Turner said.
The newly unemployed trucker is on a fixed income and worked 70 hours every week until his dismissal two weeks ago. He admitted to having a bad knee and leaning against a truck when he had to pull his full body weight on his left leg. Turner has since filed a discrimination complaint with the Texas Workforce Commission. He was given the pink slip after only two months on the job.
The employer, who hired then fired Turner, could not be reached for comment.
Things that make you go hmmm…

U-Turn: Should an employer be able to fire you for not exercising? Was this a case of age discrimination? If so, should there be an age limit for truckers (like pilots and other transportation employees)? Share your opinion in our comments section!
