How often do you find yourself checking the air pressure of your tires to make sure they are at the correct psi? If your answer is too often, then you are in luck! Goodyear has announced that they have developed a new self-inflating tire for commercial vehicles. Not only will these tires make sure your vehicle is always running efficiently, but this technology will also help prolong the life of your tires. When tires lose air, the sides of the tire will see more wear, causing the side walls thin much faster. By putting sensors in the tire; the sensor will detect a low psi level and will add more air back in the tire automatically. It will also eliminate the need for external inflation.
Goodyear says that implementing the Air Maintenance Technology wasn’t an easy task due to the higher-than-normal pressure of tires that commercial vehicles use. To get an idea, passenger cars typically run on 32 psi, but larger commercial trucks run an average of 105 psi. These tires are not yet available to the public, but will be making their debut at this years Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA) Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover, Germany. We will be anxiously awaiting their arrival in stores when available.

That’s pretty cool now if only I could get my company to install these tires on our trucks and trailers.
Yves, once these are released to the public consumers, hopefully that will be the trend.
